SURYA

Yoga Teacher

Surya Shivjot embraces the very qualities that allow us to embody yoga to the fullest. She combines more than 20 years of personal practice with diverse yogic, contemplative and therapeutic approaches, including Advaita Vedanta, Buddhist meditation, Somatic Education and Psychology. Surya grew up in Lapland and she holds a Master’s degree in Somatic Movement Education and is certified in Hatha, Ashtanga Vinyasa, Kundalini Yoga and Yoga Nidra. She received her education in Indian ashrams and in the West, studying within the traditions of Krishnamacharya, B.K.S Iyengar and Yogi Bhajan, as well as the Kriya Yoga lineage of Mahavatar Babaji.

Surya seeks ways to help her students to find a deeper connection to the subtle bodies, sensory awareness and deep inner stillness, which she sees as a doorway for higher forms of transformation. She is inspired to share the practices of self-inquiry that has had profound effects on her own life, in which the body-mind is finally free to relax into the natural state of ease and joy.

Her work bridges holistic well-being and contemporary teachings with ancient non-dual philosophy, inspiring students to find their fullest potential and ability to gain self-responsibility – from bodily health to higher levels of consciousness. Exploration of embodied mindfulness guides the students to awaken the inner alignment of creativity and intuition, changing our relationship to how we relate to the world in a more compassionate and authentic way.

Happiness is our birthright and no matter what our background, age, state of health, or religion is, we are capable of returning to the mysterious union with the body, consciousness, and soul.
