In a Hatha Yoga class, you will experience asana practice as it is traditionally taught in India. In particular, it helps to strengthen your body, increase your joint mobility, and establish stability and balance. Starting with meditation and pranayama (breathing exercises), we then move on to a pawanmuktasana sequence, which is a collection of warm-up movements that prepare your body for the rest of the class. Then, we continue our preparation with sun salutations for the main static poses selected according to the theme of the class.
Vinyasa is a style of yoga that focuses on sequencing postures together so one can simply ‘flow’. It is about moving energy within while aligning breath to movement. For this reason, this style helps improve mobility, balance, and flexibility as well as posture. Vinyasa Yoga is also beneficial in releasing overworked parts of the body and strengthen weaker areas while increasing the overall energy level.
Yin Yoga is a slow-paced, meditative style of yoga, incorporating principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, with asanas (postures) that are held for longer periods of time. As a result, the postures stimulate the subtle energy channels of the body known as meridians in Traditional Chinese Medicine, while reaching the deep connective tissue (fascia), increasing mobility and bringing you into a deep connection with yourself.
Yoga Nidra, also known as yogic sleep, is a guided practice where we enter the deep states of conscious relaxation. Although we appear to be sleeping, consciousness is functioning at a deeper level — reaching the subconscious and unconscious realms of the mind. Yoga Nidra offers great benefits for those suffering from stress, anxiety, depression, and lack of sleep. More in detail, it restores our energy levels, counteracts the effects of stress, and helps us release what’s no longer serving us. From a state of deep relaxation, we can heal, restore, and awaken to our true potential.
Let the singing bowls transport you to blissful relaxation. During this unique practice, every cell in your body will be subjected to sound vibrations. The low-frequency sounds of Tibetan singing bowls help the brain move into the deeper alpha and theta brain wave frequencies. These are the frequencies that induce deep meditative and peaceful states, clarity of mind, and intuition. Thus, the sound is energy medicine that creates a sacred space in which people can heal from stress, pain, depression, and more. During the practice, you will calm your body, mind, and spirit.
An integral part of Yoga is its philosophy. It gives direction and forms the very basis of the practice.
“When the five senses are stilled, when the mind is stilled, when the intellect is stilled, that is called the highest state by the wise. They say yoga is this complete stillness in which one enters the unitive state, never to become separate again” — The Katha Upanishad
